One of the biggest researchers of all-time, Sir Isaac Newton, came up with the three well-known regulations of movement, the third one of which declares that "for every activity, there is an equivalent and reverse response." It basically declares that whatever power is used on an item, there is a comparative power that is also used in the other way towards it. This explains the worldwide law of cause and impact. A well-known example of this law is a gun being fired; once the induction is drawn, you get the recoil. In your own lifestyle, you also get what you provide every now and then; although there may be periods when you get a lot more than what you had given. In terms of a company, when you invest, you anticipate not only a comeback but a big come back on it -- maybe twice or three times multiplied by what you had put in. We have heard a lot recently in the travel business press about how travel agents need to start selling different holidays to different people and how tour operators have transformed their business so they are able to sell more of what customers are demanding.

Hotel and car rental companies, airlines and cruise companies can equally benefit from the approach.

To help me get a handle on the way the wind is really blowing in the UK travel sector I would be most grateful if you are in the travel industry if you would spend just a couple of minutes to complete a short survey. Alternatively please pass the link on to any contacts you may have in the travel industry irrespective of their size as I’d like to get as many people’s view on this important issue as possible.

A recent survey concludes that Word of Mouth is most trusted recommendation when it comes to making major purchase decisions, over and above more general endorsements via social networks.

Companies have the ability to build and nurture such tactics from within their own customer data. Considering the customer’s overall relationship with the company will assist in creating a customer journey that delivers advocates who will either perform actively or passively for the brand.

Active advocacy is where the satisfied customer will recommend the firm to their relations, friends and wider acquaintances; sometimes a reward sweetens the process. Passive advocacy is where using what you know about your best customers enables you to ‘clone’ new customers who are likely to appreciate similar product features and levels of service and so behave in a similar manner.
