Do you have difficulty taking pix when its really sunny?

I am Sue Reeves from SuePix photography - a freelance photographer for 6 years. I would like to offer some help and tips to those of you looking to improve their photography skills. I specialise in shooting people!

Assuming you want to keep as much detail as possible there are a couple of ways to do it. An ND grad filter won't work as you'll have the reflection in the water to contend with. A polariser will have limited effect too as the sun will be head-on and they reqlly only work when the sun's at an angle to the lense. In both cases you'll have excessive "ghosting" in the shot as the light bounces between the front element and any filter you use. The best option is to use HDR. Either bracketing multiple exposures into a single frame in post-production will give you a much wider dynamic range (you need a tripod and a non windy day for this. Alternatively still bracket, but manually layer the images in post production to get the look you're after Tip: Always shoot in RAW mode. This allows you the most scope for "pixel pushing" in post. If you're in a bright light situation, but not as extreme as shooting the full sun in your face then you can do advanced post production to pull back a lot of the detail.
