Church Street Tavern opened on February 25th, 2014 as a tavern with ground floor bar and lounge and first floor dining room serving simple, freshly prepared, wholesome food. Coaching inns and taverns are a rich part of our heritage with taverns springing up at a time when there were no telephones, twitter, facebook or other ways we communicate today. If you wanted to do business, politics or socialise with people, you went to a tavern. It seemed right to give this handsome building, built as a Savings Bank in about 1852, this name as I hope it too becomes the place to meet, have fun and be well looked after.
We are open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday and dinner Wednesday to Saturday serving a full brasserie style menu. A children’s menu is available at weekends and school holidays. Feast day specials, Sunday roast joints and a dish of the day all supplement our main menu. A private dining room is available for hire and online bookings are taken. The bar and lounge are open all day from Wednesdays to Sundays from 11am serving a full list of drinks and bar snacks. Church Street Tavern is also available for private hire whether it be for drinks or dinner.
